The Missouri Department of Transportation reported that road crews “found major structural issues” with the northbound 169 Highway railroad bridge just north of the downtown airport. Thus, Northbound US-169 traffic near the downtown airport will be shut down until at least next summer.
For those of you traveling to the airport/museum, from the North traveling South, that portion of the highway is still open. For those of you traveling to the airport/museum, from the South (i.e. Lenexa, Overland Park, Olathe) traveling North, be aware that:
1. The "flyover" bridge from NB I-35 to NB US-169 is closed; instead...
2. Use the Broadway exit from NB I-35; exit left at the stop light to go North on Broadway;
3. You will see "road closed to thru traffic" signs at the entrance of the Buck O’Neil Bridge; simply drive in between those signs onto the bridge; you will then be forced to exit at the airport.
For those of you heading home North while leaving the museum, you will need to find an alternative route. For those of you heading home South while leaving the museum, your "normal" routes will be open.
